This recipe is dedicated to my sister, Ashley, who suggested I find a way to put her favorite breakfast, French Toast, in a jar. I had a lot of fun with this recipe and it turned out great, but it wasn’t without a big fat super fail…. which I will share with you at the bottom of this post!
Blueberry French Toast in a Jar
Ingredients
- ⅓ Loaf of Bread
- 1 Tbsp Vanilla
- 1 Tbsp Cinnamon
- ¼ cup Sugar
- 1½ cup Milk
- 2 Eggs
- Blueberries (as many as desired)
- 2 Tbsp Melted Butter
- ¼ Cup Maple Syrup
Instructions
- Cut loaf of bread into cubes & put in jars
- Combine Milk, Eggs, Vanilla, Sugar, Cinnamon, Blueberries, Syrup and Butter in mixing bowl
- Pour evenly into jars
- Cover jars and store in fridge (upside down) overnight (or at least 2 hours)
- Heat oven to 375 and cook (uncovered) for 45 minutes or until top is golden brown
- Let cool and top with Maple Syrup
In case you are wondering what happens when you cook french toast in a jar, covered with a lid…this happens…..

How many and what size jars for the blueberry french toast in a jar?
Liz says
I zoomed in on one of the pictures. It appears this recipe uses two wide mouth 16oz (2C) size jars.
Terri says
This recipe does not indicate what size jars or how many. Nor does the recipe give the size for ‘a loaf’ of bread(bread comes in many sizes).
Fatten Saad says
Just 3 pieces of bread per jar does the trick for me, then again, I do have medium sized jars. So maybe 2 pieces for a small jar, and 4 for a large.

How many jars does your recipe make and what size mason jar did you use?

I wonder what would happen if you substituted the milk with heavy cream. I’m looking for really fluffy french toast, maybe that would work?

The only worry I know is extreme temperature changes. For this I just leave them with the door open for a bit before taking them out of the oven. Unless it’s hot in the house then really I don’t think it would matter.
