Date night is a fairly essential fixture of any successful long-term relationship. For many, going out to dinner every week isn’t possible, but you might replicate the magic of an evening out in the comfort of your home. Doing so means forming a plan, and making sure that all of the essential components are in place before you get started.
Set the Scene for Romance
To begin with, you’ll want to make sure that you have a suitable space. That means cleaning up and clutter, and removing any objects that might suck away the sense of romance. Stacks of washing, laundry, or paperwork should be cleared to make way for fairy lights, candles, and the fanciest cutlery you have available.
Your choice of music might also make a big difference. Look for something that matches your tastes, and the vibe you’re looking for. Make sure that it’s playing at the right volume, too.
Cook or Order Something Special
If you want the night to be truly memorable, then you’ll want food that’s a little more refined than the functional stuff you eat on the average weeknight. Think about special meals that you’ve always wanted to try, and cook them yourselves. If you need ingredients you don’t have, then you might avoid the hassle of shopping for them with the help of a mail-order meal kit.
Ordering a takeaway is also an option. Bear in mind, however, that you’re arranging a home-based date night (at least partly) in order to cut costs. You can make your budget stretch much further if you’re willing to put in the work in the kitchen – and you can enjoy the experience together, too. There’s also the benefit of leftovers to think about!
Add an Element of Fun or Surprise
Activities, games and unexpected elements can help to add some interest to your date night. The form these take might depend on your personal taste. However, it’s worth embracing things you aren’t normally partial to, especially if you’re only going to be trying them out for a matter of minutes.
For example, you might plan a holiday together, arrange a quiz, or check out a selection of bingo promotions from online vendors.
Unplug and Be Present
Many modern couples are unable to control themselves when it comes to screen time. If there’s a phone on the table, then you can be reasonably sure that you won’t be paying full attention to one another. If this is something that you both agree is problematic, then you might agree to stash your phones in a different room for the duration of the night. You might find that your conversation takes a different turn when you’re able to give one another your undivided attention!
