Richie Shelton was the late half-brother of country music superstar, Blake Shelton. Shelton was born July 6, 1966, in Oklahoma. He was the son of Blake Shelton’s mother, Dorothy, but his father was Ronnie Musgrove. Richie spent his childhood in the small town of Ada, Oklahoma, which has a rural feel and a strong sense of community. As the eldest of three siblings, Richie was important to the Sheltons. His reputation was for his kind disposition and love of family, traits that stuck with his younger siblings.

Richie had two younger half siblings; Endy Shelton and Blake Shelton. Richie was the son from Blake’s mother, Dorothy Ann Shackleford’s first marriage. Both Blake and Endy were children of Dorothy Shelton’s second marriage to Richard Shelton, Richie’s stepfather. Although half-siblings, Richie, Blake and Endy were close friends and shared a close bond.

Tragic Loss of Richie Shelton

Shelton died November 13, 1990, in a car accident. He was 24 when he died. Blake Shelton, who was 14 at that time, has often talked about the grief and loss Richie’s death left in his family.

Richie has had his memory honored in many ways, most notably in Blake’s song “Over You,” written with then-wife Miranda Lambert. The song about loss and heartbreak became a tribute to Richie and a testament to the Shelton family’s love.

Blake Shelton: Early Years and Rise to Fame

On 18 June, 1976, Blake Tollison Shelton was born in Ada, Oklahoma. As a child, Blake sang and performed locally. His small town roots shaped his values and artistic sensibilities. His upbringing in a close family environment often shows in the lyrics of his songs.

Blake Shelton left Nashville, Tennessee, at age 17, to become a country music artist. In 2001, he released his first single “Austin.” The project was a smash hit that put Blake on the Billboard Hot country Songs chart.

Blake Shelton released albums and singles including “God Gave Me You,” “Honey Bee” and “Boys ‘Round Here.” With his distinctive voice and outgoing personality, Blake became a household name in country music.

Blake also became a coach on the television show The Voice. His wit and charm made him a fan favorite.

Family and Legacy

The Shelton family’s story is one of strength and love. The family has remained supportive even after Richie died. Dorothy Shelton, the matriarch of the family, has always encouraged her children to live their dreams amid life challenges.
