Baan Kamthieng House Museum – This intriguing corner of the city offers a glimpse into Thailand’s splendid history. The museum is housed in a teak house constructed in the unique traditional architectural style of Thailand, featuring a high peaked roof and ornate carvings. A peaceful green park surrounds the museum, making visitors feel as if they are actually visiting a northern Thai village, it’s easy to forget Bangkok’s bustle is just beyond the trees! The museum houses amazing interactive displays that are designed to demonstrate what traditional rural life in Thailand was really like.
The collection of intriguing artifacts are displayed to provide a highly immersive experience. You can see the inner workings of a rice granary, and a real silk loom that is in use to this very day! Perhaps the most popular display consists of an eerie collection of magic charms based on ancient supernatural beliefs.. The museum is truly a doorway into life over a hundred years ago. Don’t miss his unique educational experience!
Terminal 21 – Visitors to this truly fascinating location will find themselves wondering if it is a theme park or shopping mall? The answer is that it’s a bit of both, its nine floors surround an open central space with each one themed on a different famous world city. The vast indoor space is made to feel like an airport terminal with travellers ‘flying’ to the next ‘city’ by taking the escalators. From there you will feel like you have stepped into a faraway land!
Every floor is full of interesting shops and restaurants based on that destination. For example, London’s Carnaby Street boasts a magnificent replica of the famed Big Ben clock tower, while Tokyo features a maze of tiny shops much like the city’s actual shopping districts, as well as sushi and noodle shops. Another escalator ‘flight’ will take you to San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf where you can walk along the ‘docks’ in search of delicious seafood.
Of course this is just a small taste of all that Bangkok’s exciting Sukhumvit Road has to offer, so come and experience it for yourself!
