Mason Jar Breakfast Leave a comment

Are you on a quest for a nutritious and delicious breakfast that can support your weight loss goals? Look no further! We’ve got the best healthy overnight oats recipe for weight loss.

Here's the best healthy overnight oats recipe for weight loss! It's delicious and loaded with nutrients.

Are Overnight Oats Good for Weight Loss?

If you are wondering “Are overnight oats good for weight loss?” the answer is yes, and for several reasons:

  1. High fiber content: The oats and chia seeds in this recipe are excellent sources of fiber. Fiber helps promote feelings of fullness, reduces appetite, and slows down the digestion process, which can aid in weight management by preventing overeating.
  2. Nutrient-dense ingredients: Fresh blueberries are rich in antioxidants and vitamins, providing essential nutrients while keeping the calorie count relatively low. The lemon/lime zest adds a burst of flavor without adding extra calories. Chopped pistachio nuts and desiccated coconut offer healthy fats and additional texture to the dish.
  3. Controlled sugar content: The blueberry compote is sweetened with just 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, providing a touch of sweetness without excessive sugar. By minimizing added sugars, this recipe helps prevent blood sugar spikes and cravings for more sugary foods.
  4. Healthy fats: The coconut milk used in the overnight oats adds creaminess and a source of healthy fats. Healthy fats can help increase satiety, improve nutrient absorption, and provide a sense of satisfaction after consuming a meal.
  5. Customizable and balanced: This recipe provides a balanced combination of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. You can adjust the portion sizes and toppings to meet your specific dietary needs and preferences while still maintaining a healthy balance.

It’s important to note that while this recipe can be a part of a weight loss plan, overall calorie intake and portion control are key factors. It’s also essential to consider individual dietary needs and adjust the recipe accordingly.

Mason Jar Overnight Oats Recipe for Weight Loss

Making overnight oats in a Mason jar is a great idea for several reasons, especially when it comes to overnight oats for weight loss:

Portability: Mason jars are a convenient and portable option for storing overnight oats. The jar’s sturdy construction and tight-sealing lid make it easy to take your breakfast on the go, making it a perfect choice for those who are following a weight loss plan. Whether you’re heading to work, school, or the gym, you can simply grab your jar of nutritious overnight oats and enjoy a satisfying meal wherever you are.

Meal prep: Mason jars are ideal for meal prepping, which is an essential strategy for successful weight loss. By preparing multiple servings of overnight oats in advance, you save time and effort during busy mornings. Simply grab a jar from the refrigerator, and your delicious and healthy breakfast is ready to be enjoyed.

Visual appeal: The clear glass of a Mason jar allows you to see the beautiful layers of ingredients in your overnight oats. From the oats and chia seeds to the vibrant fruits and toppings, the visual appeal of the layers adds to the overall enjoyment of the meal. It’s like having a mini work of art in your breakfast jar, making it even more enticing and enjoyable.

Airtight seal: Mason jars come with lids that provide an airtight seal, which is crucial for keeping your overnight oats fresh and preventing any spills or leaks during transportation. The airtight seal also allows you to shake the jar to mix the ingredients before consuming, ensuring that the flavors are evenly distributed for a satisfying eating experience.

Eco-friendly: Choosing a Mason jar for your overnight oats is an eco-friendly choice, aligning with the principles of sustainable living. By opting for a reusable container, you reduce the need for disposable packaging or single-use containers, contributing to the reduction of waste and promoting environmental consciousness. It’s a small but meaningful step towards a greener lifestyle.

Making overnight oats in a Mason jar offers not only convenience, portability, and visual appeal but also supports your weight loss goals and promotes sustainability. It’s a practical and enjoyable way to prepare and enjoy your nutritious breakfast. So let’s dive into this decadent recipe and embrace the benefits of overnight oats for weight loss.

You can use other grain flakes such as rice flakes or quinoa flakes,  if you cannot find gluten-free oats.

Use other berries to make the compote for variations and you can even use the same recipe by swapping out the blueberries for banana.

Beach Jars Home Decor

Do you love the beach? Are you craving some time swimming in the waves or reading a book in the sand? (Me, too!) The good news is, even if you can’t go to the beach right this minute, you can make your home reminiscent of the beach with a sea glass-inspired beach jar!

I love these beach Mason jars–not to mention other beach home decor. There’s something so soothing and calming about bringing the beach into your home. It reminds you of fun family vacations and beautiful locales. (I think that’s the reason nautical and beach-inspired home decor is so popular, whether or not you live near the beach.)

This beach jar is so incredibly simple to make–and it looks far more expensive that it actually is! (Don’t you love that? If you’re anything like me, you love home decorating and crafting, but you can’t spend a fortune at the craft store!) In fact, you probably already have most of the materials to make a beach-y, sea glass-looking decorative jar in your house already. You don’t have to go to the shore to collect sea glass: just use a Mason jar!

With a few little tricks, you can make your beach Mason jar look like it’s made of sea glass. Seriously! The secret? Elmer’s glue. You’ll find the tutorial below.

You can put just about anything beach-related in these beach jars. I used small pieces of driftwood and accessorized with a few stones from the beach; however, you could use shells, sea glass, sand dollars, coral, plants (real or faux), sand collected from your favorite beach, or another item.

MATERIALS

If you have the materials below already, that’s great! If you don’t, you can click the links below to find the materials I recommend. (Note that I use blue and green acrylic paints in keeping with the beach theme, but you can use other colors for your beach Mason jar if you want.)

Mason jars
Elmer’s glue
Blue and green acrylic paints
Paint brushes
Scrap paper
Small paper cups
Hemp twine
Driftwood

DIRECTIONS

1. Lay out a piece of scrap paper to paint on. (This is especially important if you’re doing this project with little ones!)

2. Take the lids off your jars. You won’t be using them in the end, so feel free to re-purpose them for something else!

mix paint and glue to make beach Mason jars

3. Mix a tablespoon of Elmer’s glue with a drop of paint. Mix well. (Important: don’t skip this step! Elmer’s glue helps to thin out the paint and give the beach jar a sea glass look. If you use only paint, your Mason jar decor will be more opaque–which is pretty, but not the look we’re going for here.)

4. Paint the outside of your jars and let dry for several hours.

wrap hemp around beach Mason jars

5. Wrap a piece of hemp twine around the top of the jars several times and tie off into a knot.

6. Fill the jars with driftwood and rocks. Display anywhere in your home. (I think these beach jars are so pretty in the kitchen and bathroom, but they also make beautiful bookshelf decor or fun table decor for themed parties.)

Mason Jar Decor Idea: Mason Jar Easter Crafts

Easter is such a wonderful holiday, isn’t it? Around here, we love to maximize the celebration (not just with Easter, but all the holidays we celebrate)! Think: Easter lunch with family, Easter egg hunts, painting Easter eggs, Easter baskets with goodies inside, Easter craft decorations, and sweet treats. It’s so much fun!

One of my favorite crafts to do this time of year is the Easter Mason Jar. It is fun, easy, festive, and inexpensive–making it the perfect Mason jar Easter craft!

It’s also a craft (like painting Easter eggs) that is extremely kid-friendly. With just a few materials needed and simple instructions, it’s a great family activity that all ages will enjoy! (What’s more, it’s also easy to change up to suit your tastes. In the tutorial for this Easter craft, we used bright blue, green, and white to decorate the Mason jar because it reminded us of spring–but you and your kids are free to use whatever colors or patterns you like! You can also use fresh flowers, fake flowers, greenery, etc. inside.)

This Mason jar craft makes a great Easter centerpiece idea, of course, but there are a number of other things you can do with it, like:

  • Use it as kitchen decor
  • Swap the Easter basket for this reusable, more festive, and more eco-friendly Mason jar
  • Use it to store candies, cookies, or other treats in the springtime (decorative and functional!)
  • Give it as a gift to loved ones

As you can see, there are so many reasons to make Mason jar Easter crafts! To continue the spirit of Easter, here are a few more Easter Mason jar ideas to celebrate:

  • Easter Cupcake in a Jar
  • Easy Easter M&M Cookies in a Jar
  • Springtime Cake in a Jar

(Mason jars aren’t just for decor, ya know! You can make some seriously yummy–and portable–treats in a Mason jar.)

HORIZONTAL STRIPED JAR

tape Mason jar decor idea

1. Use the washi tape to tape four stripes horizontally around the jar, pressing firmly. (The “pressing firmly” part is key here: if you don’t press the tape down hard enough, the paint will get under the tape and you won’t get a clean line.)

2. Paint each stripe rotating colors (I used blue and yellow) and let dry.

3. Peel the tape off.

4. Cut a circle out of a foam paint brush.

5. Using the foam circle as a stamp, dip it in white paint and carefully place the stamp onto the striped jar. Let dry.

VERTICALLY STRIPED JAR

1. Use the washi tape to tape stripes vertically around the jar, pressing firmly. (See the horizontal Mason jar decor tutorial above for why pressing firmly is important.)

2. Paint each stripe rotating colors (I used blue, yellow, green, and pink) and let dry.

PLAID JAR

1. Paint the jar white and let dry.

DIY Home Decor Crafts: Tinted Mason Jars

I love any excuse to decorate my home! (That means seasons, holidays, birthdays, special occasions: you name it, I’ve created home decor for it!) However, just because I love home decor doesn’t mean that I want to break the bank.

Enter: DIY home decor crafts!

DIY crafts are great for home decor because they are fun to make and easy on the wallet–meaning you can afford to go a little crazy 🙂

As I said before, you don’t need to tell me twice to get to crafting: I’ve made so many DIY crafts for the home for all sorts of occasions:

  • Mason Jar Football Centerpieces (great for game days, Superbowl parties, etc.)
  • DIY Valentine Gift: I Love You Mason Jar Flowers Centerpiece (perfect as a gift or for your own kitchen or dining room table)
  • Easy DIY Mason Jar Canisters (cute and functional–use them as DIY kitchen decor or as cookie jars, flour & sugar canisters, bath salt jars, and more)
  • Christmas Mason Jar Centerpiece (a beautiful DIY centerpiece that is sure to impress your guests, as well as a thoughtful gift!)
  • Fall Mason Jar Centerpiece (celebrate the fall season with this fun and festive centerpiece!)
  • Mason Jar Centerpiece for Wedding or Home (a lovely centerpiece for a wedding, garden party, or other special event!)

That said, out of all my DIY decor ideas, this next one is one of my favorites. It’s incredibly easy, even for a home decor craft, with literally three steps. Yes, three quick and easy steps are all that stand between you and this fun and pretty DIY home decor idea!

At the end of the tutorial, you’ll have beautifully colored, vintage-inspired tinted Mason jars that will work for all sorts of things. Use it:

  • As a dining room centerpiece (with some fresh-cut or silk flowers!)
  • As fun kitchen storage (for cookies, crackers, spices, wooden utensils, etc.)
  • As bathroom storage (get rid of those old plastic containers!)

What’s more, this DIY home decor craft is very customizable. I used green food coloring because it reminds me of lovely, “old-timey” vintage glass bottles, and green is the perfect color for spring. However, you can use any color you prefer and match the decor of the rest of your home! With the help of a color wheel (or a little experimentation), you can also easily mix your own colors in order to get a custom color!

Mason Jar Desserts: Cherry Mason Jar Lid Pies

I love to cook and bake because I love to eat, ya know?

Let me rephrase. Some people like to cook and bake for the process itself. They like the art and science of it, and can happily spend hours in the kitchen tinkering with recipes. When the meal, dessert, or baked good is done, they’ll sample it, make note of what worked and what didn’t, and then feed it to others–because it’s not the end product that matters so much as the process.

Those people are…not me.

Don’t get me wrong, those people are great! They come up with some really intricate, phenomenal recipes. But not everyone has the time, energy, or resources to spend hours in the kitchen tweaking recipes, with little desire to eat the end product. (And not everyone has a kitchen full of really obscure ingredients and strange kitchen gadgets.)

I really do enjoy cooking and baking, but I’m also a busy mom, so I need the recipes to hit the trifecta of delicious, quick, and foolproof. If you’re like me, you know how it goes: you’ve got a family to feed and everyone is hungry now. You need to get something on the table quick, and you don’t have the time (or let’s be real, the budget!) to simply re-do a meal or dessert that goes catastrophically awry. (Such a waste of ingredients and money, right?)

That’s why I love Mason jar recipes!

These types of recipes are so, so simple and easy, they’re practically foolproof. And of course, they are also quick to make and delicious to eat. For me, Mason jar recipes–whether they are for breakfast, lunch, or dessert–check all the boxes.

Today, however, I want to talk about my current favorite Mason jar dessert: these Cherry Mason Jar Lid Pies.

There are so many reasons why I love this particular Mason jar dessert: they’re easy, delicious, inexpensive, and–on top of all that–they make adorable single-serving pies! That means you can make a few for your family or you can make a bunch and give them out as holiday or teacher gifts! I mean, who doesn’t love having a whole pie all to themselves? (Of course, at a more manageable serving size!)

If you’re not an experienced baker or have never made pie before, never fear! This dessert in a jar recipe uses a few shortcuts that makes the dessert easier and faster to make, without sacrificing any taste!

  • Refrigerated pie crusts (Pillsbury is the one used, but you can use any brand you like) mean you don’t have to spend hours chilling, then rolling out, finicky pie dough.
  • Cherry pie filling makes the filling a cinch: no more messing with sugar and fruit to find the perfect balance of sweet and tart–it’s done for you!
  • This recipe uses a Mason jar lid to bake the pie! (Yes, you can use a Mason jar lid!) It’s such a simple hack, but it works great: you don’t have to go out and buy a specific pie pan, and the Mason jar lid is the perfect single-serving size.

With these hacks, your cherry pie dessert in a jar will come together in no time. To kick things up a notch, all you have to do is brush some egg onto the pie lid and sprinkle some brown sugar on top. That gives the pie crust a beautiful, extra-appetizing golden brown exterior.

Okay, is your mouth watering yet? You are about 30 minutes away from my favorite Mason jar dessert (and that includes the bake time!). Let’s get started with this cherry pie!

ingredients for Mason jar desserts

INGREDIENTS
Makes 4 pies

Note: I know not everyone has time to run to the grocery store, so I’ve linked some great ingredients and supplies from Amazon for this Mason jar dessert!

(2) Refrigerated pie crusts
Pie filling
1 Egg
1 Teaspoon of milk
1 Tablespoon brown sugar

You will also need:
Large or small Mason jar lids
Pastry brush
Small bowl
Fork
Parchment paper
Cookie sheet

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

cut around Mason jar lid for pies

2. Carefully roll out the pie crust. Place a Mason jar lid on top of the pie crust and use a butter knife to cut around the lid. (Cut a little extra around the lid, as pictured. This is because you’ll need some extra crust to connect the bottom part of the pie crust with the top part.)

3. Spray the lids with a non-stock cooking spray and place the 4 lids onto the pan.

place dough into the lid for desserts in a jar

4. Place a pie dough circle into 4 lids.

add filling to Mason jar lid pies

5. Scoop 2 tablespoons of pie filling into the center of each pie dough circle. (By the way, this Mason jar recipe uses cherry pie filling, but feel free to experiment with other fruit pie fillings if cherry isn’t your favorite!)

cover Mason jar desserts with dough

6. Place another pie dough circle on top of the pie filling and pinch the edges together with a fork.

brush egg on top of the desserts in a jar

7. Whisk 1 egg with a teaspoon of milk in a small bowl and brush it on the pie dough.

sprinkle brown sugar on Mason jar lid pies

8. Sprinkle with brown sugar and bake for 15-18 minutes (or 13-15 if you use the small Mason jar lids).

And there you have it! How easy was that? Don’t wait–get to making this Mason jar dessert ASAP and be prepared to reap tons of compliments from family and friends! Also, feel free to let me know in the comments below what your favorite dessert in a jar is.
